Story of Rani Sati Temple

The story of Queen Sati is many ages old. According to mythology and legends, Abhimanyu and his wife Uttara are associated with Mahabharata. Abhimanyu died in the war of Mahabharata. So Uttara drowned in mourning and took the decision of Abhimanyu to be surface sati. But Uttara was from the womb and was about to give birth to a child. Seeing this, Shri Krishna asked Uttara to forget the thought of ending life. Because it is against the religion of the woman who is about to give birth to a child.

Uttara was very impressed after hearing this from Shri Krishna and changed her decision to become Sati. But instead she expressed a wish according to which she wanted to become Abhimanyu’s wife in the next life and become sati. Later Uttara was born as Narayani, daughter of Gursamal Birmewal in the village of Dokwa in Rajasthan. And Abhimanyu was born in Hisar as Tandan Jalan, the son of Jaliram Jalan. 

Tandon and Narayani got married. After Tandon’s death, Narayani ji became sati with Tandan keeping her desire to be sati with her husband. Since then, Narayani came to be worshiped as a symbol of female valor and power and she was called and worshiped by other names like Rani Sati, Dadi Maa, Jhunjhunu Wali Rani Sati.

Fair

A fair is held every year at the famous Rani Sati temple of Jhunjhunu. That fair is famous all over the country. This fair is held every year on the new moon day of Bhado month. Lakhs of devotees attend it. During the fair, devotees offer chunari to Narayani Devi. And they are adorned. Apart from this, Bhandara is also run by the temple management. At that time special worship of Goddess Sati is done in the temple. In it, the devotees reach with the family and get blessings by worshiping the grandmother with full rituals.
