This river flows from the side of Kuber temple and joins the Narmada. Which is seen by the devotees going in small circumambulation as a direct proof. The Kaveri rounds the Omkar mountain and meets Narmadaji back at the confluence.

It is called the confluence of Narmada Kaveri. Most of the temples here were built by Peshwa kings. It is said so. That the temple of Lord Omkareshwar has also been built by the same Peshwas. Mythology 

There are quite a few mythical stories and legends attached to the history and origination of Omkareshwar. The first one goes to say that Vindhya- the deity controlling the Vindhyachal mountain ranges was worshipping Lord Shiva to cleanse his soul of the sins committed by him. He made a lingam of sand and clay. Impressed by the worship, Lord Shiva appeared before him in two forms- Omkareshwar and Amkareshwar.

The second legend suggests that an ancestor of Lord Ram- King Mandhata, worshipped Lord Shiva to the extent that the God appeared and manifested himself in the form of Jyotirlinga. Another Hindu myth says that once during the ancient times, there was a war between the Devas(gods) and Danavs(demons), in which the Devas lost the battle to the Danavs. Disappointed by the failure, the Devas prayed to Lord Shiva, who impressed by their faith and devotion, appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga and defeated the Danavs.

Sri Govinda Bhagavatpaada Cave

Shri Govinda Bhagavatpada Cave is considered very religious by Hindus. The cave has a main hall and a small sanctum. In which there is a Shivalingam. This is that cave. Where Guru Shankaracharya learned his lessons from the Govinda Bhagavatpada Granth. It is believed that it was here that Shankaracharya met the great saint Govinda Bhagavatpada and received his spiritual education and his deeds under him. It is also believed that Shankaracharya saved the city from a major flood by pouring the water of the river into kamandals.
