History of Jag Mandir

The history of Jag Temple Palace is very old. The construction of Jag Mandir Palace on Lake Pichola was done by Maharana Karan Singh in the early years of the 17th century. Shah Jahan was hiding in the Jag Mandir Palace at the time of exile. Between the years 1620-28, Maharana Karan Singh ruled here. At that time Khurram had rebelled against his father. Maharana Karan Singh helped Khurram. At that time Shah Jahan had gone out of his kingdom with his wife and two sons. Then Maharana Karna gave him shelter in the City Palace of Udaipur.

But later he could not follow the Rajput customs. That’s why Karan Singh shifted him to Jag Mandir Palace. After the death of Karan Singh, the palace was completed by Maharana Jagat Singh during 1628-1652. The present form of Jag Mandir Palace is the result of the additions made by Maharana Jagat Singh. Talking about historical facts, Maharana Swaroop Singh had given shelter to many European families in the Jag Mandir Palace during the Revolt of 1857.
