History of Howrah Bridge

Sir Bradford Leslie built this bridge over the Hooghly River in 1874. But it had to be redesigned to accommodate the increasing traffic across the Hooghly River. The major Bridge was constructed in 1942. For that reason it was named as New HowrahBridge. It took seven years to complete the construction of Howrah Bridge. And finally it was opened to the public in February 1943.

On which all the vehicles are moving at present.
