History of Rajbari Cooch Behar

The Cooch Behar Palace or Rajbari was built in 1887 by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan. When the palace was built, this palace was three-storeyed. But due to the earthquake in 1897, this Rajbari was badly damaged. Later it was reduced to two floors. Nripendra Narayan had two sons, Rajendra Narayan and Jitendra Narayan. He assumed the throne after the death of his father.

Jagdipendra Narayan, son of Jitendra Narayan, was the last Maharaja of Cooch Behar. Who ruled Cooch Behar till his death in 1970. Exactly 12 years after the death of the last Maharaja of Rajbari, Rajbari has been taken over by the Survey of India (ASI) under its jurisdiction. And in 2002, ASI converted some parts of Rajbari into a museum.
