Bhoramdeo Temple is an ancient temple located in Chauragaon of Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh. This temple is similar to the Sun Temple of Konark. According to the discovery made by the Historical and Archaeological Department and the inscriptions here, the history of the Bhoramdev temple dates back to the Kalachuri period between the 10th and 12th centuries. The credit for the construction of the Bhoramdev temple goes to Lakshman Dev Rai and Gopal Dev of the Faningvansh dynasty. The temple complex is known as a poem scattered in stone. The Gond tribals here used to worship Lord Shiva. He used to call him Bhoramdev, that is why this temple came to be called Bhoramdev Temple.

Architecture of Bhoramdeo Temple

The sanctum sanctorum is the primary enclosure of the temple. Where the presiding deity Shiva is worshiped in the form of Shiva Linga.

The idols of Ganga and Yamuna are seen in the main entrance of the temple. The temple also has images of ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu along with Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha painted in the walls.

Museum

There is an open-air museum within the temple complex. The museum has a huge collection of archaeological artifacts. Remains of the 2nd or 3rd century can be seen in it. The ‘Sati Pillars’ are also on display here. They have a unique architectural motif. which show the couples in mournful postures. There are paintings of linga and Nandi collected in the museum premises.

Hanuman Temple

Recently a temple for Hanuman ji has also been constructed in the Bhoramdev temple complex. This temple is situated on one side of the courtyard.

Madwa Mahal

The Madwa Mahal is located around 1 km from the main temple complex. It was constructed to commemorate the marriage of Nagvanshi king, Ramchandra Dev and Raj Kumari Ambika Devi. The structure of this temple is similar to that of a marriage hall or a pandal. Hence it got the name Madwa. There are traditional architectural decorations at the entrance of this temple.

Istlik Temple

Another ancient temple is the Istlik temple made of dried or burnt clay bricks dating back to the 2nd or 3rd century. The temple structure can be found adjacent to the main Bhoramdev temple. It is presently in dilapidated condition. In which there is only pavilion and in which there is no pavilion and entrance. The Shivalinga is worshiped here along with the images of Uma Maheshwar.
